First day at OFFF was very poor.

Starting on the venue location, Fundição de Oeiras, which as a very poor acoustics and it’s hot as hell. Then, there was almost any signs to help you around.
If this was any other venue, who cares, but this one is all about communication, design, motion, digital solutions… information. And there was a lack of it.

Getting to the presentations, it started with NEVILLE BRODY, great design, good content, interesting ideas and concepts, but… what a bad presentation! The sound, the timing, the speech… even the projection had some problems.

Then… we had a lunch break!!! One presentation and a break? Why start?

After the break, i decided to see KOBAYASHI. No, i didn’t know he was italian, I really thought he was japanese! It was good, and in a way, very inspiring. Change is good, and sometimes you need to have one in your life. Take a chance.

Then it was time for EVA VERMANDEL. It was impossible to hear anything and the pictures weren’t at all what i was waiting for.

JASON BRUGES STUDIO, was very good. It could had been even better, if the sound would help. They showed some of the work that they do, and it was really good work. Very innovative and modern, with great installations.

Another break. This one, made every sense.

After the break, we had the presentation, UNITED VISUAL ARTIST (UVA). Everything was great, Dave Ferner (animation designer at UVA), gave a very smooth presentation with good timing and very interesting projects. It was basically based on the installations that they have done, and it was very well explained. Again, the sound wasn’t great, but we were allready aspecting that. If i had to chose the best of the day, it would be this one.

Didn’t saw all the JAMES PATERSON + AMIT PITARU presentation, but from a little piece that i did see, it was very nice. Very psychedelic.

And the last presentation was CHRIS MILK. His work is very nice, but the presentation wasn’t. I almost fell asleep!

And this was the first day.
So far it wasn’t impress me. Only in a negative way!

Tomorrow is another day, and theres allways Joshua Davis, which means great and enthusiastic presentation. For sure.
